County of Santa Clara Releases Data Dashboard Showing COVID-19 Case Rates by Vaccination Status

This dashboard shows the 7-day daily average COVID-19 case rate by day for Santa Clara County overall, for unvaccinated residents, and for fully vaccinated residents. The COVID-19 case rate for the county overall is calculated as the total number of cases on a given day per 100,000 County residents. The COVID-19 case rate for unvaccinated residents is calculated as the total number of cases on a given day per 100,000 unvaccinated residents on that day. The COVID-19 case rate for fully vaccinated residents is calculated as the total number of cases on a given day per 100,000 fully vaccinated residents on that day. For this dashboard, residents are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of the vaccine, and residents are considered unvaccinated if they have not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. The case rate is calculated using the changing population of each group as unvaccinated people become vaccinated. People who are partially vaccinated, meaning they only received one dose of a two-dose vaccine or who are not yet 14 days after their final dose, are not included in either category. Case rates are used in the dashboard instead of the number of cases because case rates allow for a better comparison of the burden of COVID-19 between different sized populations.

This dashboard is updated Wednesdays and Fridays and will not be updated on holidays.

Data Notes: Cases are reported by the date that the specimens were collected for testing. Cases that do not have a valid specimen collection date will not show up in the graph. This data is presented with a 7-day lag to account for the time it takes for tests to be run in the lab and then reported to the Public Health Department. As part of ongoing data quality efforts, data are updated as the County receives information that is more complete or accurate. Therefore, case rates may change as cases are added to or removed from total counts through this process.

Currently, 84% of Santa Clara County residents age 12 and older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and roughly 78% have completed their vaccination. Santa Clara County has among the highest vaccination rates in the nation, but it remains critical that more individuals get vaccinated to further protect the community, particularly children, the elderly, and people who are immunocompromised.

Vaccination sites throughout the county continue to accept drop-ins for COVID-19 vaccines and same-day appointments are also available. Visit sccfreevax.org for the latest information and updates.
